What to Look for When Entering the Pet Store by Kevin Wu
Pet shops is the place to be when intending to buy for a domesticated animal like dogs, cats, birds, fishes, rabbits, and many others. This is considered as the petâs home right before an owner bought them and takes the animals to their respective homes. Although the most popular animals that can be bought in pet shops are dogs and cats of different breeds, there are other animals that can be domesticated too it includes:
âFancy rats
âHamsters
âGuinea pigs
âFerrets
âRabbits
âGeckos
âLizards
âScorpions
âParrots
âFerrets
âFresh water turtles
âFishes and many more.
But before buying any of these animals, it is very important to research and learn how to take care of the animals sold at pet stores. It is important to know how to feed them, what specific cage aquariums or âhabitatâ they should live in, how to groom them and if they need to be vaccinated. Having a pet can be like raising a child since it entails responsibilities and certain duties.
However, this should not be the only concern before buying a pet. Researching and knowing more about the pet shops are also quite necessary because this is the place where potential household addition comes from. Knowing the pet shopâs set up of animals, the condition of the place; how the environment is; the feeding habits; and even the animalâs grooming are very important considerations before in pet shops. Here are some tips that should be kept in mind before finally concluding to buy something in a pet store.
a.The living condition. This is the most vivid and the simplest way to determine how responsible and how well organized a pet shop is. Anyone should take time to look around and see if the dogs or cats or different animals are places in different enclosures. Aside from that, checking if the enclosures are cleaned every day. The size of the cages should also be considered. Bigger animals like dogs should be placed in a bigger cage where they can still stand or walk around a little. For mixed animals like the hamsters or the guinea pigs, it should be big enough for the animals to move around and if they have sleeping areas.
b.The aisles. There should be enough space for clients and employees to walk around loosely. Also the aisles should be free from animal dirt and wastes.
c.Ventilation and overall cleanliness. Pet shops should be clean and it should be well ventilated. It is given that some animals like dogs have a particular smell but an awfully smelling pet shop is a big no-no. Cleanliness should be maintained in corridors, in the grooming area, in the receiving area and the like.
d.The employees. The people working behind pet shops should be well rounded. It is important for the employees to address the questions, concerns and some apprehensions by the clients. Employees should answer truthfully and straight to the point yet the sympathy of each employee to their pets are also essential.
