I have got a BG Macaw male and a gw Female in mating season How often does this happen in a year..?
I wasnt real aware of this until it was to late I got bit. The female seems to be more agressive then the male. I am keeping them apart. I was told it makes a good bird bad after they mate is this true.
I agree with the above. Normally breeding is several times a year, more for some species. Cross breeding has caused a lot of birds to become very rare. Females are normally more aggressive and defend the cage or nest more than the male. Even little female love birds get nasty, breeding season or not when you try to mess with their cages. It doesn’t seem to make a good bird bad after mating. They just are getting ready to be parents and are more protective of the nest. Breeding is not to be taken lightly and done by those who don’t know what they are doing, or are knowledgeable about birds. Keeping them apart is a good idea. Keeping them that way is another good idea. You can keep their cages close together, so they can see each other and hear each other, but can’t breed or pick with one another. (males WILL fight with females, especially when kept in the same cage all the time)
