Questions about parakeet cages?
I used to have parakeets, but my last one got sick and died. The cage is in the garage, and I was thinking about getting a new parakeet. Should I take the old one and wash it, or should I just buy a new cage?
If I should just wash the cage, how do I make sure it’s completely safe(no germs to get the new one sick)?
If I should buy a new cage, do you have any recommendations?
well my last parakeet lived 6 years by himself and he was happy as a clam. he was attached to me though, teehee.
If its a good sized cage I would take a bottle of 10% bleach 90% water and spray it down really good then let it sit in the sun and give it a good scrub down, and thorough rinse it should be fine.
You want to get a big cage something they can fly in. In petstores cages labeled for parakeets are usually way too small. I had tro buy one in an emergency and the only one even close to the right size at petco was one labeled for small parrots (which technically parakeets are anyways)
Get 2 parakeets though, they are social flocking birds and will get depressed if you only have one.
