My Macaw is coughing?
I have blue and gold macaw who started coughing when I brought him back from a place where he was boarded at.
Can anyone tell me what could cause this? There is clear fluid coming out of the nasal pasage, but I am sure it is from his lungs. He had a clean bill of health prior to this. This cough has been progressivly worsenin. g. His feathers have become shabby and raggedy, and developing black coloring where the blue shoudl be.
Get him to the vet NOW. This bird sounds like he has a viral or bacterial infection. They can spread very quickly. I would tell the people that boarded him. They could have some sick birds there and can spread it like wildfire. You don’t have to have an avian vet, a regular vet is knowledgable about birds and their illnesses. They just have decided not to “specialize”. Take your bird now….this is very serious. Keep him away from other birds and wash your hands good after handling him. Please read my profile.
